Unsolved 3 year water leak found by LDS in 1 day at Football Club!

LDS Leak Detection Specialists Ltd find a water leak  in 1 day that has baffled many at Sheffield Wednesday Football Club for 3 years!

Case Study
Sheffield Wednesday Football Club is a football club in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England who play in the Championship, the second tier of the English leagues. Sheffield Wednesday are one of the oldest professional clubs in the world and the third oldest in the English league. The Wednesday, as they were known until 1929, were founding members of The Football Alliance in 1889 and its first champions. They joined The Football League three years later and were also one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992.
Since joining the Football League in 1892, the club has spent most of its history in the top flight of English football but have not played at this level since being relegated in 2000. They have won four League titles, three FA Cups and one League Cup in 1991, their only major trophy since 1935. They reached the FA Cup and League Cup Finals in 1993 but lost both to Arsenal. They also lost the 1966 FA Cup final to Everton.
Since 1899, Sheffield Wednesday have played home matches at Hillsborough Stadium in the north-western suburb of Owlerton, hence their nickname The Owl. Hillsborough is currently an all-seater ground with a capacity of 39,732.

The Problem:For 3 years, the club were having problems with the central heating that supplied certain parts of a stand to include the executive boxes. Due to a constant  pressure drop on a pressure gauge inside the boiler house it was assumed there was a leak on the pipe work between the boiler house and the stadium. This section of pipe work was around 230 meters long in total and ran under a road / car park, so no obvious signs were visible. Contractors had previously been on site and excavated various holes to try and locate the leak, all of which proved unsuccessful.

The Solution:

LDS Leak Detection Specialists Ltd offer a leak detection service providing a non-destructive solution to finding leaks in any pipe work in both domestic and commercial properties. In contrast to traditional methods of large scale excavation, LDS utilise specialists equipment coupled with our engineers technical expertise to locate hidden leaks quickly and accurately, saving both time and money.

After 3 years of the problem Sheffield Wednesday Football Club contacted LDS to help find the suspected leak. The job was booked into our system on Friday and our engineer arrived the following Monday to do the work. On arrival our LDS engineer was informed where approximately the pipe work ran under the road/car park and was then left to carry out a full leak detection survey. Our engineer used various techniques to include acoustics and tracer gas tests on the pipe work and located an area to 1 square meter. This area was marked ready for excavations and repairs. After the leak had been repaired, the central heating was finally running ok again for the first time in 3 years thanks to just 1 day of tests/surveys from LDS Leak Detection Specialists ltd.
